President

Holly Shepard CDA

I graduated from the Dental Assisting Program at The Center for Technology Essex in June of 2010. Shortly after I challenged the DANB exam and became a Certified Dental Assistant. I am now enjoying the balance of my career and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to Vermont winters on the ski slopes and the greens of the golf course in the summer. In the coming years I plan to further my career and become an Expanded Function Dental Assistant.

President Elect

Senada Sokocevic

I came to America twelve years ago from Bosnia as a refugee. I graduated from the Dental Assisting Program in 2002, and became a Certified Dental Assistant the same year. Furthermore, I became an EFDA in 2008. I have been working at Vermont Dental Care for the last ten years, and I started before I graduated the Dental Assisting Program. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities that include biking and running. In 2006, I tested for a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I am also interested in photography, and I am now the official board photographer.

Past President

Stephanie Garrow RDA, CDA, EFDA, EFODA
South Londonderry, VT
VdaaPastPresident@yahoo.com

Stephanie’s original interests were in banking when in 1989 she was offered a position in a Dental office as a receptionist/scheduling coordinator, which she did for two years. She was then given the opportunity to work directly with the dentist doing patient care as a Traditional Dental Assistant. After six months she took the Radiology course at the University of Vermont to become a Dental Assistant with Radiology Privileges. In 1994 she challenged the Dental Assisting National Board exam to advance in her career by becoming a Certified Dental Assistant. Over the course of the last 22 years, she has gained valuable experience in Oral Surgery, General, Pediatric, Orthodontic and Cosmetic Dentistry. In 2005, after completion of the Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Program at Essex Career and Technology Center, her desire to utilize all of her skills and knowledge has become a reality. Stephanie encourages all fellow Dental Assistants to continue their education and expand their skill levels. When not at work, Stephanie enjoys cooking and being outdoors, of her many activities; running, hiking, and snowshoeing are her favorites.

Secretary

Melissa Arel CDA

Treasurer

Angela Albin

Angela graduated from the University of Vermont in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She is now in her second year as a Traditional Dental Assistant at West River Family Dental in Southern Vermont. Currently, Angela is preparing to challenge the Dental Assisting National Board exam. Her immediate goal is to become a Certified Dental Assistant by the end of the year, and work towards participating in the Expanded Function Dental Assisting Program in the nearby future.
